Creative Alliance of New Orleans Annual Gala- BAL DES ARTISTES Features a Masked Ball, Fashion Show of Gowns and Costumes and Live Entertainment!

December 10, 2012, New Orleans: BAL DES ARTISTES, the annual benefit to support the Creative Alliance of New Orleans will be held on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 at the Old Casino Building in City Park.  The event will begin with music by the Courtyard Kings and a boutique, curated by Bon Castor, where guests can purchase masks and other carnival favors, jewelry, accessories and crafts. At 7pm the “ALL GOWNED UP” fashion show will begin, featuring local fashion designers, vintage gowns donated by Carnival Queens and other New Orleans residents, and some really fantastic artist-made gowns that stretch the imagination. Local designers and artists include Tabitha Bethune, Elsa Brodman, Carolina Gallop, Jose Luis Rodriguez, Elizabeth Eckman, Elizabeth Shannon, Raine Bedsole, Tracy Thompson, Bob Tannen and Sally Heller. Jewelry design by Waregarden Studio. Hair by Bouffant Beauty & Barber.

The second part of the evening will be a Bal Masque that evokes the original bohemian carnival balls presented by a group of artists who came together in the French Quarter in the 1920’s. Led by no less than William Faulkner, Sherwood Anderson, William Spratling and many others, the scene then was not unlike the exploding art scene of New Orleans that we are experiencing today. In short, this will be a Carnival ball as it should be— creative, fun, and cutting-edge.

This event will be held at the old Casino building in City Park that now is home to Morning Call Coffee Stand. This building will be transformed for one night only into a French brasserie, while the crosswalks and band shell become the staging ground for the fashion show and special costumed characters presented by the Everything Collective, a new brilliant team of designers whose creations defy description.

The second floor of the building will feature a “Parisian Piano Bar” that will showcase the hot new chanteuse in town, Tabitha Pearl, her band, and special celebrity guests.  Tickets can be purchased online at http://cano-la.org or at baldesartistes.eventbrite.com. You can also call 504.218.4807 or pick up tickets at 2326 Esplanade Ave from 2-5pm, Monday-Friday. Please call before if you plan on doing so. Tickets are $75.00 to attend. A limited number of VIP Tables are available for $550 (seats six.) at the “footlights” of the fashion show.

This event directly sponsors our Creative Futures program which provides educational and career resources for High School students to pursue post-secondary education and job training in the creative industries. Included in this program is the development of the first comprehensive database of educational programs in the creative industries for the state, region, and ultimately the nation. It also includes coaching for students, guidance counselors, teachers and parents on preparing portfolios, resumes and applications for further education and training programs. Finally, it provides special internships in the creative industries.

The event is sponsored by New Orleans Musical Legends Foundation, Regions Bank, Second Line Stages, Booth & Booth, APLC, Morning Call Coffee Stand, New Orleans Fashion Week, New Orleans Rum, Pal’s Lounge, A.L.G Style, Bouffant Beauty & Barber, Mr. Greg Morey, New Orleans Business Alliance and others. We are still accepting sponsorships at this time. Please contact the Creative Alliance of New Orleans at 504.218.4807 or info@cano-la.org if you have any questions.
