“2ND ANNUAL WETLANDS ART TOUR EXPANDS DOWNRIVER”

NEW ORLEANS, LA- The 2nd Annual Wetlands Art Tour is a daylong event happening on Saturday, May 9th throughout the city and in St. Bernard Parish. The event brings together over 100 artists, performers, scientists, and activist who are working on issues related to coastal land loss and wetlands restoration. Wetlands Art Tour aims to engage the community with this important topic, to inspire important conversations, and to take action.

This year, the 2nd Annual Wetlands Art Tour has expanded to include Wetlands Art Tour | DOWNRIVER. Organized by the Creative Alliance of New Orleans and produced by Wetlands Art Tours, visitors are invited to join a three stop your which will include visits downriver to The Ranch Studios, The Meraux Foundation, and Crevasse 22 in St. Bernard Parish.

The Wetlands Art Tour seeks to increase community engagement with the urgent issue of coastal land loss through different perspectives and artistic mediums. The goal is to inspire participants to continue to have conversations about this topic and to take action.

WETLANDS ART TOUR  | DOWNRIVER

Hours: Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 9AM – 12PM

1. Studio Inferno – 6601 St. Claude Ave., New Orleans, LA 70117

Studio Inferno is a hot glass studio that produces a line of hot cast glass objects with a strong New Orleans influence as well as awards and architectural commissions. For 25 years, owner Mitchell Gaudet has created his unique glasswork at Studio Inferno, drawing clients and fans worldwide. Now Gaudet is preparing for his next artistic undertaking when Studio Inferno hosts “East meets West,” an exhibition of the works of glass sculptor Hiroshi Yamano.

2. The Ranch Studios – 8301 W Judge Perez Dr. Torres Park Plaza Suite #200, Chalmette, LA 70043

Get an inside look at the Hollywood of the South and visit the offices and the future site of The Ranch’s film studio complex. Your hosts will be Jimmy Hornbeak, Vice President of Sales & Marketing (Director of Amazement), and CEO Jason Waggenspack (Head of Possibilities).

3. The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation – 5124 E. Saint Bernard Hwy, Violet, Louisiana 70092

The Meraux Foundation relies on its land holdings to improve St. Bernard Parish and benefit the entire community. Visitors will see the new Arlene Meraux River Observation Center, which boasts balcony views of the Mississippi River. Your host will be Board Member Chris Haines.

4. Crevasse 22 | RiverHouse – 8122 Saro Lane, Poydras, LA

Organized by the Creative Alliance of New Orleans on behalf of the Torres | Burns Trust, Crevasse 22 is a temporary outdoor sculpture exhibition featuring work by Dan Alley, Rayne Bedsole, Luis Colmenares, Mitch Gaudet, Srdjan Loncar, Gene Koss, Liz Shannon, Christopher Saucedo, Bob Tannen, and Michel Varisco. Visitors will also be able to see the environmentally-themed exhibition “Landscapes: Photographs | Paintings | Drawings” which includes works by Ron Bechet, Henry Butler, Sandra Russell Clark, Tina Freeman, Gabrielle Gaspard, Gary Cecchine, Jillian Gibson, William Guion, Simon Gunning, Diego Larguia, Robert MacDonald, Robert Perrin, Sandra Buring Pulitzer, Rudolf Karl Radlinger, Richard Sexton, Michel Varisco, and Jane Randolph Wipple.
