Raised in New Orleans, Xiao Xiao studied computer science and architecture at MIT and completed a PhD from the MIT Media Lab. Xiao’s work bridges the arts, science, technology and design. Her research on interactive technologies has been published at academic conferences around the world. Recent projects include Minds in the Making, an interactive installation for the Taylor Education Center in a 4-story elevator cage, three permanent interactive installations for the Brulatour building of the Historic New Orleans Collection, and Inventive Minds – a collection of essays about learning by the Artificial Intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky, for which Xiao was co-editor and illustrator. She currently divides her time between New Orleans and Paris. She researches new tools for language learning inspired by music by day and explores music on the theremin by night.
