ARTISTS IN VIEW

Please enjoy these videos of artists sharing with you the inspiration, concepts and process involved in their work, as well as virtual tours of art spaces normally open for you to visit. CANO hopes you may think about enjoying their work someday in your own home.

Feel free to check further into their work with the contact information provided.

CANO looks forward to the time when we can resume our unique cultural tours that bring visitors into artists’ studios, private art collections and off-the-beaten-path art and music spaces in neighborhoods and parks around the city. See our Art Home New Orleans website for more information.

INVITATION FOR ARTISTS & CREATIVES TO PARTICIPATE

Dear Creatives,
Here at the Creative Alliance of New Orleans (CANO), we’re very concerned about the double, even triple hit many in creative disciplines have taken from the Covid-19 crises, losing venues for showcasing their work, hospitality industry and education jobs.

In response, we’ve reactivated our “Artists in View” program, placing virtual tours of artists and other creatives’ studios, galleries, showrooms, or performances for online viewing.

The idea is for artists, creatives and gallerists to record very simply produced video tours, while explaining some of the thinking that underlies their work. CANO will post these videos on our websites, and artists can post and share as they wish. We hope these videos will familiarize potential collectors, buyers, and audiences with the work of regional artists, helping to motivate purchases.

These videos should break through barriers-perhaps for the first time-connecting gallerists, creatives, and new audiences directly, through Artists in View.

This program will continue past the virus crisis to further stimulate support for our regional creatives. A longtime passion of our organization has been to encourage art, design and performance sales to help our creative community grow and prosper. That was the underlying principle when Robert Tannen and I first called friends together to found the Contemporary Arts Center, a home for presenting contemporary work of regional creatives.

We hope you will consider producing a short video, 2-3 minutes max, either shooting it yourself, or having an associate or friend shoot it at a safe social distance. For those of you who want a more polished product, we can help you secure a videographer to shoot and edit your video, although we encourage you to create a product that doesn’t need to be edited. We will provide a very simple set of tips to help produce your own.We encourage all to be creative and resourceful in how you wish to do this. There are no strict rules! Below is a sample virtual tour previously produced.

Not only will we post this online, but we will promote it through myriad social and traditional media, with the help and support of our partners noted below, and your own networks. You will also be encouraged to post and share widely or use as part of your portfolio. The video will remain your property.

Please share with us any questions or ideas you have, and please nominate others you think may be good candidates for this program (Please forward this invitation to them or email us with their name, website if possible, and best contact!) And please, despite all of our competing work and home life issues during this crisis, move to execute your video as soon as possible. If you have one from the past, it may fit the criteria already.

We launch on Wednesday, April 22nd with new postsfollowing every Tuesday & Friday.
