New Orleans Native, Kara Crowley, is an artist who embraces the love and admiration for black culture and creatives of the South. She creates pieces in order for her audience to make both emotional & spiritual connections while understanding the aesthetics/ hardships /accomplishments as a African American in society. Kara’s time with YAYA Inc. (Young Aspirations – Young Artist) and at Xavier University of Louisiana molded her into the artist she is today. She currently teaches visual arts at St. Augustine H.S. Kara continues looking for ways to nurture her own artistic practice throughout the New Orleans art community such as Xavier University of Louisiana, 912 Studio, Joan Mitchell Center (AIR Program) and the Ana & Adeline Foundation. Kara’s main passion is working in the studio along with her artistic discipline, which is painting portraits. Kara’s medium is acrylic on wood surfaces and finding unique to interpret her portraiture.
